TLDR Combining low-level light therapy and minoxidil 5% is more effective for female hair loss than using either treatment alone.
This study compared the effectiveness of low-level light therapy (LLLT) and minoxidil 5% alone versus their combination in treating female pattern hair loss (FPHL). The study involved a total of 195 women who were randomly assigned to one of three groups: LLLT, minoxidil 5%, or a combination of both. The results showed that the combination of LLLT and minoxidil 5% was more effective in treating FPHL than either treatment alone. The study also evaluated patient satisfaction and side effects and found no significant adverse effects. The study recommends the use of combination therapy to hasten hair regrowth.

Key treatments for hair preservation include minoxidil, finasteride/dutasteride, and microneedling, with additional options like specific shampoos, oils, biotin, zinc, tretinoin, clascoterone, and low-level laser therapy. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle, reducing stress, and addressing nutrient deficiencies can also support hair health.
