This paper discusses a novel enzymatic assay that predicts the response to minoxidil treatment in androgenetic alopecia (AGA) patients. The assay measures the activity of the enzyme minoxidil sulfotransferase (SULT1A1) in the hair follicle, which is responsible for converting minoxidil to its active form, minoxidil sulfate. The study found that the assay demonstrated 95% sensitivity and 73% specificity in predicting minoxidil treatment response for AGA. The authors suggest that this assay could be a valuable tool for dermatologists to better guide AGA treatments.
