TLDR Red and infrared light therapy improves hair growth in balding patients.
The study investigated the effects of low level laser therapy on hair growth in patients with androgenetic alopecia (AGA). 24 male patients treated their scalp with a portable light source emitting 655-nm red light and 780-nm infrared light for 10 minutes once a day. The hair density and anagen/telogen ratio were determined by image analyzer program. After 14 weeks of phototherapy, the hair counts were significantly increased in both the vertex and occipital regions of the patients with AGA. The study concluded that phototherapy with 655-nm red light and 780-nm infrared light can have a beneficial effect on hair growth in patients with AGA.
