TLDR Fully regenerating human hair follicles not yet achieved.
This document is a compilation of various articles discussing tissue engineering strategies for human hair follicle regeneration. While progress has been made, the goal of fully regenerating human hair follicles is still far from being achieved. The articles explore different approaches and challenges, including the need for further research, the importance of stem cells and dermal papilla cells, and the role of receptive epithelial cells and signaling modulation. Some studies have shown success in growing mouse hair in vivo after transplantation of in vitro formed structures, but achieving fully functional hair follicle regeneration in humans remains a distant goal.

Clinical studies by Dr. Barghouthi and Dr. Bloxham indicate that Verteporfin, when used with FUE and FUT hair transplantation methods, shows promise in hair follicle regeneration and minimal scarring due to its ability to inhibit Yes-associated protein (YAP). Microneedling at depths of 3-3.5mm, combined with Verteporfin, could potentially reactivate dormant follicles, although the optimal dosage and application method are still under investigation. Concerns remain about the DHT sensitivity of regenerated follicles, highlighting the need for further research to optimize trauma levels and Verteporfin concentrations to achieve effective and scar-free hair regeneration.

The conversation discusses the complexity of hair loss causes, suggesting that DHT sensitivity alone doesn't fully explain it. Treatments mentioned include finasteride and dutasteride.
