TLDR Retinoids may improve hair growth in androgenic alopecia when used with other treatments.
Androgenetic alopecia (AGA) is a common hair loss condition influenced by genetic and androgenic factors, particularly dihydrotestosterone, leading to follicular miniaturization and a shortened anagen phase. Current treatments are often inadequate, but recent research highlights the potential of retinoids, vitamin A derivatives, in promoting hair growth by extending the anagen phase and stimulating follicular activity. Early studies indicate that topical retinoids, especially when combined with existing therapies, may enhance treatment outcomes, offering a promising direction for more effective AGA management and hair restoration.
