TLDR The combination of tretinoin gel and minoxidil effectively improves hair growth and satisfaction in people with androgenetic alopecia.
This study evaluated the efficacy of a combination therapy using 0.1% tretinoin gel followed by 5% minoxidil solution in 20 patients with androgenetic alopecia (AGA) who were non-responders to minoxidil alone. Over 90 days, participants experienced a 32.9% increase in hair count and density, a 3.5% rise in anagen-phase hairs, and a 4.8% increase in hair thickness. Investigator assessments showed that 20% of participants had a 51-75% improvement, while patient self-assessments indicated improvements in hair quality (50%), hair coverage (70%), and overall appearance (75%). Most participants (80%) reported new hair growth and satisfaction with the treatment, demonstrating the combination's effectiveness in enhancing hair growth and patient satisfaction in AGA cases.

DLQ01, a prostaglandin F2α analog, shows promise for hair growth by directly stimulating PGE2/PGF receptors without needing conversion, and can be combined with minoxidil and retinoids like tretinoin for enhanced effectiveness. Minoxidil's efficacy may be reduced by COX-1 inhibitors, but using prostaglandin analogs like Latanoprost or Bimatoprost can help maintain its effectiveness.

The conversation includes mentions of potential new treatments like GT20029, HMI-115, CosmeRNA, KX-826, and microneedling, but also highlights the challenges of funding and prioritizing research in this area.

A user reported that Minoxidil, a hair growth treatment, stopped working for them despite initial success. Other users suggested not taking breaks from the treatment, checking for fake products, trying microneedling, using oral Minoxidil, combining Minoxidil with tretinoin, and using finasteride.
