TLDR Oral minoxidil improves hair density in women with androgenetic alopecia, with mild side effects.
In the study "Efficacy and safety of oral minoxidil in female androgenetic alopecia" from Nov 01, 2020, 12 female patients with androgenetic alopecia were treated with oral minoxidil for 24 weeks. The treatment resulted in a 38% improvement in hair density in the frontal area and a 23% improvement in the vertex area. The study found oral minoxidil to be effective and safe for treating female androgenetic alopecia, with mild side effects such as hypertrichosis, dizziness, and peripheral edema. However, the study's limitations include a low number of patients and a retrospective design, suggesting that further research is needed to confirm these findings.
