TLDR Different genes and pathways are active in yak skin and hair cells, affecting hair growth and immune responses.
The study analyzed the differences in mRNA and miRNA expression between Dermal Papilla Cells (DPCs) and Hair Matrix Cells (HMCs) in yak hair follicles. Researchers isolated and cultured these cells, then performed RNA sequencing. They found 4600 differentially expressed genes, with 2265 mRNAs upregulated and 2335 downregulated in DPCs compared to HMCs. Additionally, 123 differentially expressed miRNAs were identified. The study also found significant differences in the morphology of DPCs and HMCs. The results suggest that these specific mRNAs and miRNAs contribute to the interaction and cellular communication between DPCs and HMCs during hair follicle development. This research provides insights into the molecular basis of hair follicle development and may offer new insights into hair follicle function in yak adaptation to the alpine environment.

community Vitamin C and hair growth PH levels

in Product  34 upvotes 2 years ago
The conversation is about using vitamin C and Magnesium L-Threonate for hair growth by reducing DHT binding to dermal papilla cells. The original post about vitamin C's pH levels and sebum control was possibly removed by a moderator.

community Fats on your Head to Stop Hair Loss?

      in Research/Science  138 upvotes 9 months ago
The conversation discusses the potential of long-chain unsaturated fatty acids, like oleic and linoleic acid, as an additional treatment for hair loss, which may inhibit the enzyme responsible for converting testosterone to DHT and promote hair growth. Users humorously suggest using oils topically and discuss other hair loss treatments, but the main focus is on the science behind fatty acids and their role in hair health.

The post and conversation are about the role of the enzyme 3alpha-hydroxysteroid reductase in hair loss and the potential of compounds like procyanidin B2 and sulforaphane to boost its activity for hair regrowth. Further research is needed to develop effective treatments based on this theory.

community How does dutasteride regrowth work?

      in Finasteride/Dutasteride  6 upvotes 6 months ago
A 25-year-old man with hair loss from bleach damage is using oral minoxidil and considering adding Dutasteride for better regrowth and prevention. He seeks advice on Dutasteride's effectiveness and potential benefits over finasteride, and is also curious about RU58841.

community Rosemary oil's potency as a dht blocker

      in Research/Science  65 upvotes 11 months ago
Rosemary extract showed high inhibitory activity against DHT, similar to finasteride and dutasteride, but the conversation includes skepticism about its effectiveness in humans since the study was done on mice and rosemary oil is often considered ineffective based on personal experiences. Some suggest trying rosemary oil alongside other treatments, while others emphasize the difference between the extract used in the study and the oil.
