Exosomal MicroRNAs Derived from Dermal Papilla Cells Mediate Hair Follicle Stem Cell Proliferation and Differentiation

    The study demonstrated that dermal papilla cell-derived exosomes (DPC-Exos) promoted hair follicle (HF) growth by inducing the anagen stage and delaying the catagen stage. It was found that DPC-Exos attached to hair follicle stem cells (HFSCs) and induced their differentiation. High-throughput sequencing identified 111 differentially expressed miRNAs in DPC-Exos, with the top 34 miRNAs suggesting roles in cellular signal transduction, fatty acid expression regulation, and cellular communication. Specifically, miR-22-5p was found to negatively regulate HFSC proliferation by targeting the LEF1 gene, proposing the miR-22-5p-LEF1 axis as a novel pathway for regulating HFSC proliferation.
