TLDR Dermal papilla cells help skin stem cells grow into hair.
The study explored the role of dermal papilla (DP) cells in inducing hair differentiation in adult epithelial stem cells from human skin. It found that DP cells significantly increased the expression of the hair-specific keratin K6hf, a marker of hair follicle differentiation, through the β-catenin/Lef-1 signaling pathway. The research demonstrated that DP cells are crucial for initiating stem cell differentiation, affecting gene expression related to cell structure, growth, and signal transduction. These findings provided insights into the molecular mechanisms of hair follicle differentiation and suggested potential therapeutic targets for hair loss and related conditions.
