TLDR Lactiplantibacillus plantarum ZJUIDS51 can help regrow hair and improve scalp health in androgenic alopecia.
The study concludes that supplementation with the food-derived strain Lactiplantibacillus plantarum ZJUIDS51 effectively improves androgenic alopecia (AGA) by promoting hair regrowth and restoring follicular health. The mechanism involves remodeling the gut-skin metabolic axis, modulating steroid homeostasis, and increasing plant-derived antioxidative metabolites. These changes help reduce cutaneous dihydrotestosterone (DHT) levels and oxidative stress. The findings suggest that ZJUIDS51 could serve as a safer, functional food alternative to current AGA treatments like minoxidil and finasteride, which have safety concerns.
