TLDR Certain genes and pathways are linked to the production of finer and denser wool in Hetian sheep.
The research investigated wool density in Hetian sheep and found that sheep with high wool density produced finer wool. The study identified 1,452 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) that could influence wool density and quality. Key genes and signaling pathways, such as TGF-β/BMP and MAPK, were found to be related to hair growth. Eleven genes belonging to the KAPs and KIFs might affect the fineness of the wool. Key genes like TNF, MAP2K2, INHBA, FST, PTPN11, MAP3K7, KIT, and BMPR1A might affect wool growth and density. This research provides valuable resources for improving the wool quality and quantity of Hetian sheep.
