TLDR Gardenia florida fruit extract may help hair grow and needs more research to understand how.
The study investigated the effects of Gardenia florida fruit extract (GFFE) on hair growth, using both human dermal papilla cells (hDPCs) and C57BL/6 mice. Results showed that GFFE promoted hDPCs proliferation and stimulated hair growth-promoting genes, including vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and Wnt/β-catenin signals, while suppressing the hair loss-related gene transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β). GFFE treatment also increased the number, size, and depth of cultured hair follicles and stimulated hair growth in mice. The study suggests that GFFE could be a promising agent for promoting hair growth, but further research is needed to understand the detailed mechanism of GFFE promoting the growth and proliferation of hDPCs in vivo.
