TLDR Hyaluronic acid microneedles with herbal extracts may help regrow hair.
The study explores the use of hyaluronic acid microneedles (PO-ex MN) loaded with Platycladus orientalis leaf extract as a novel intradermal delivery system for hair regeneration in treating androgenic alopecia. The microneedles, made from a double cross-linked hyaluronic acid methacrylate/hyaluronic acid hydrogel, effectively penetrate the skin to deliver the extract into the dermis. This delivery system enhances hair follicle cell proliferation by removing reactive oxygen free radicals and activates the Wnt/β-catenin pathway through mechanical stimulation, promoting hair growth. The findings suggest that PO-ex MN could be a promising therapeutic strategy for androgenic alopecia.
