TLDR Cedrol from Platycladus orientalis leaves may promote hair growth effectively, especially in female mice.
The 2016 study explored the effects of cedrol, a compound from Platycladus orientalis, on hair growth in C57BL/6 mice. Cedrol was topically applied in concentrations of 10, 20, and 30 mg/mL, and the most effective concentration for promoting hair growth was 30 mg/mL. This concentration resulted in significantly longer and heavier hair in female mice after 21 days, outperforming both the control and the 2% minoxidil-treated groups. Histological analysis supported these findings, showing an increase in hair follicle length. The study concluded that cedrol is a promising candidate for hair growth promotion, particularly in females, and suggested further investigation into its mechanisms. The study's strength is limited by not specifying the number of mice per group, although it mentioned using 10 mice per group for statistical purposes.
