TLDR LncRNA RP11-818024.3 helps hair growth and recovery in hair loss by boosting cell survival and reducing cell death.
The study demonstrates that lncRNA RP11-818024.3 promotes hair-follicle recovery in androgenic alopecia (AGA) by enhancing hair growth and follicle cell proliferation while reducing apoptosis. In AGA mice, lncRNA RP11-818024.3 transfection led to significant hair growth recovery. In vitro studies with human hair follicle stem cells (HFSCs) showed increased cellular proliferation and decreased apoptosis upon lncRNA RP11-818024.3 transfection. Transcriptomic gene sequencing and qRT-PCR revealed that the lncRNA up-regulates the PI3K-Akt signaling pathway and fibroblast growth factor (FGF)2, which was found to be 14-times higher post-transfection. This suggests that lncRNA RP11-818024.3 could be a novel therapeutic method for AGA by promoting follicle stem cell survival through the FGF2-PI3K/Akt pathway.
