Autologous Cellular Method Using Micrografts of Human Adipose Tissue Derived Follicle Stem Cells in Androgenic Alopecia

    TLDR Using human fat tissue derived stem cells in micrografts can safely and effectively increase hair density in people with hair loss.
    In 2019, a study was conducted on 35 patients (23 males and 12 females) aged 21-70 years, suffering from Androgenic Alopecia. The study used an autologous cellular method involving micrografts of human adipose tissue derived follicle stem cells (HD-AFSCs). The patients were treated with three injections at 45-day intervals. The results showed a significant improvement in hair density, with a mean increase of 33% ± 7.5% and 27% ± 3.5% at 23 and 44 weeks after the last injection, respectively. The study also found that the number of CD34+ cells, progenitor cells located in the outer root sheath of hair follicles, increased roughly 3-fold in the treated area compared to the baseline. The study concluded that HD-AFSCs contained in micro-grafts may represent a safe and effective alternative therapy option against hair loss, but further research is needed to fully understand the mechanisms and optimize the procedures.
