TLDR Hair transplantation can significantly improve life quality for those with chronic hair loss.
This review article discusses the role of hair transplantation as a therapeutic option for individuals with alopecia, particularly those with androgenetic alopecia, but also for other types of alopecia. It highlights the psychosocial impact of hair loss, such as reduced self-esteem and increased anxiety, and the importance of hair transplantation in addressing these issues. The article examines the two main techniques used in hair transplantation: follicular unit transplantation and follicular unit excision. It also addresses the need for comprehensive guidelines on patient candidacy, pretransplant medical optimization, intraoperative considerations, and postoperative management, as current guidelines are limited. The authors emphasize the significance of hair transplantation in improving the quality of life for patients with chronic hair loss.
