TLDR PRP preservation improves hair transplant results better than saline.
The study compared the effectiveness of Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) versus saline solution as preservation solutions for hair transplantation in 50 participants. Results indicated that PRP-preserved hair grafts had significantly higher survival rates, better hair density, and improved hair thickness compared to saline-preserved grafts. PRP-preserved grafts showed a graft uptake of 93.3% versus 76.6% in the saline group, with hair density peaking at 203.7 ± 39.9 after 1 year. Participants in the PRP group experienced over 75% hair regrowth after 6 months and reported a mean satisfaction rate of 7.1 out of 10. The study concluded that PRP is a superior preservation solution for hair grafts, enhancing the success of hair transplantation surgeries, though further research with larger sample sizes and longer follow-up is recommended.
