Studysummary This small study observed that infusing platelet rich plasma into the scalp reversed hair miniaturization and stimulated new hair growth in patients with androgenetic alopecia and alopecia areata over 8 months. Our plain-language summary of this paper — not a Tressless recommendation.
The study investigated the effects of autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) on non-transplanted miniaturized hair and found that PRP therapy could reverse hair miniaturization over an 8-month period. Additionally, PRP infusion in a patient with alopecia areata resulted in new hair growth within 1 month, which persisted for over 8 months. These findings suggested that PRP could be a potential treatment for androgenetic alopecia and alopecia areata.
