The Effects of Autologous Platelet-Rich Plasma and Various Growth Factors on Non-Transplanted Miniaturized Hair

    Joseph F. Greco, Robert Brandt
TLDR PRP treatment helped reverse hair thinning and promoted new hair growth.
The study investigated the effects of autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) on non-transplanted miniaturized hair and found that PRP therapy could reverse hair miniaturization over an 8-month period. Additionally, PRP infusion in a patient with alopecia areata resulted in new hair growth within 1 month, which persisted for over 8 months. These findings suggested that PRP could be a potential treatment for androgenetic alopecia and alopecia areata.
