TLDR Hair transplantation is safe and effective for children with scar-related hair loss.
The study investigated the effectiveness of autologous hair transplantation in treating cicatricial alopecia in children. It included 13 participants (10 males and 3 females) aged between 4 years 1 month and 12 years 10 months. The children underwent hair transplantation with an average of 55.3 ± 9.1 hair follicular units per cm² and were followed up for 6-12 months. The techniques used were FUE (9 cases), FUT (3 cases), and a combination of both (1 case). The average hair survival rate post-transplantation was 85.3%. Only one child experienced temporary folliculitis, with no other complications reported. The Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale (GAIS) showed that 2 cases had complete improvement, 10 had obvious improvement, and 1 had partial improvement. Patient satisfaction results were very satisfied (2 cases), mostly satisfied (10 cases), and dissatisfied (1 case). The study concluded that autologous hair transplantation is a safe and effective treatment for children with cicatricial alopecia.
