TLDR Adding Triamcinolone to the anesthetic can reduce swelling after hair transplants, and using Platelet-Rich Plasma can improve hair thickness and patient satisfaction. The SRD5A2 gene also plays a key role in the success of hair transplants.
The study "Adjuvant measures and genetic evaluations to improve results of hair transplantation" analyzed 271 male patients with androgenic alopecia who underwent hair transplantation using the Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) technique. The study found that adding 40 mg of Triamcinolone to the local anesthetic solution significantly reduced postoperative edema from 40% to 9%. Additionally, three sessions of Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) at the 2nd, 4th, and 6th months postoperatively increased patient satisfaction rate from 64.5% to 83.7% due to better hair density and thickness. The study also found that the expression of the SRD5A2 gene was significantly higher in both satisfied and dissatisfied patients compared to highly satisfied patients, suggesting that the gene's expression plays a crucial role in the success of hair transplantation. Increased expression of this gene could reduce the response to hair transplantation.
