TLDR Follicular unit transplant successfully repigmented vitiligo patch on upper lip.
This case report describes the use of follicular unit transplant (FUT) to repigment a stable vitiligo patch on the upper lip of a 30-year-old male. Single-hair FUT was performed, and repigmentation was noted in 4 weeks and complete pigmentation seen at 8 weeks. No recurrence was noted at the end of 6-month follow-up with excellent color match. FUT appears to be an effective method for treating localized/segmental vitiligo, especially on hairy parts of the skin, including the eyelids and eyebrows and for small areas of vitiligo. The best application of this method will be in vitiligo patches with leukotrichia.

      community Verteporfin and Microneedling

      in Treatments 6 months ago
Clinical studies by Dr. Barghouthi and Dr. Bloxham indicate that Verteporfin, when used with FUE and FUT hair transplantation methods, shows promise in hair follicle regeneration and minimal scarring due to its ability to inhibit Yes-associated protein (YAP). Microneedling at depths of 3-3.5mm, combined with Verteporfin, could potentially reactivate dormant follicles, although the optimal dosage and application method are still under investigation. Concerns remain about the DHT sensitivity of regenerated follicles, highlighting the need for further research to optimize trauma levels and Verteporfin concentrations to achieve effective and scar-free hair regeneration.
