TLDR Trichoscopy helps hair transplant surgeons diagnose hair loss types and assess donor hair quality.
The article discussed the importance of preoperative diagnostic confidence and donor site assessment in hair transplant surgery, particularly for patients with androgenetic alopecia (AGA). It highlighted the use of trichoscopy to differentiate between AGA and its mimickers, such as alopecia areata incognita (AAI) and fibrosing alopecia in patterned distribution (FAPD). Trichoscopy helps identify these conditions through specific findings like yellow dots and peripilar casts, which correlate with histologic diagnoses. Additionally, trichoscopy was noted to be useful in assessing donor hair density and potential hair pathology in the safe donor area, thereby aiding in the preoperative evaluation process.
