TLDR Trichoscopy helps diagnose hair and scalp disorders in dark-skinned people by identifying unique patterns.
The document is a review article that focused on the trichoscopic features of hair and scalp disorders in individuals with dark skin. Trichoscopy, a noninvasive diagnostic tool, has been underrepresented in studies involving dark-skinned populations. The review analyzed 61 papers and three books from 1993 to 2017, highlighting unique trichoscopic patterns such as the perifollicular pigmented network and pinpoint white dots that are specific to dark scalps. These patterns vary across different conditions like scarring and nonscarring alopecias, and their recognition is crucial for accurate diagnosis and treatment. The review also discussed specific hair disorders, including androgenetic alopecia, alopecia areata, and others, emphasizing the importance of understanding these unique features in dark-skinned individuals to improve their care.
