TLDR Red dots on the upper chest may be an early sign of certain types of hair loss.
The document described a novel clinical observation of extrafacial red dots in a net-like pattern on the upper chest in two female patients with biopsy-proven frontal fibrosing alopecia (FFA) and fibrosing alopecia in pattern distribution (FAPD). Both patients presented with pruritic red dots on their chest, which were examined and found to have a reticulated network of erythematous macules. Dermoscopic and histological analysis revealed features consistent with lichenoid dermatitis. This observation suggested that these red dots might be an early manifestation of lichen planus pigmentosus, a condition previously noted in FFA patients. The study highlighted the need for further validation in larger patient groups.
