TLDR Afro-textured hair needs specialized care due to its unique genetic and structural properties.
The review highlights the significant genetic and macromolecular variability in human hair, with a focus on the unique properties of Afro-textured hair. It underscores the detrimental effects of incompatible hair care products on Afro-textured hair, such as alopecia, and calls for scientific and clinical collaborations to bridge the knowledge gap. Through data mining and in-silico network analysis, the review identifies key biomarkers affecting hair fibre shape and strength, including hair shaft diameter, keratinisation, and hair follicle development. The authors advocate for a deeper understanding of the genetic traits, molecular structure, and biomechanics of Afro-textured hair to develop more effective hair care solutions.
