TLDR An extract made from Polygoni multiflori Radix, Angelica gigantis Radix, and Lycii Fructus was found to increase hair density and prevent hair loss in most users when applied daily for 18 months.
In a study conducted 19 years ago, an oriental medicine extract composed of Polygoni multiflori Radix, Angelica gigantis Radix, and Lycii Fructus was tested on 40 males and 10 females suffering from male pattern hair loss. The participants applied the extract to their scalps once a day for 18 months. The results showed that hair density on the entire scalp gradually increased for most participants during the treatment period. Hair loss was observed about 1 week to 2 months after starting the treatment, and hair growth was observed about 6 months after starting the treatment. 74% of participants reported that the extract was effective in promoting hair growth, preventing hair loss, and improving scalp condition. The study concluded that the extract may be an effective treatment for hair growth and hair loss prevention.
