TLDR Fermented papaya and mangosteen in hair care products helped prevent hair loss and improve hair thickness.
The study involved 154 subjects with androgenic or diffuse alopecia who used hair care products containing fermented papaya (FP) and fermented mangosteen (FM) for 3 months. The results showed that these products significantly inhibited hair loss, increased hair density and thickness, and improved hair follicle structure compared to placebo and caffein controls. Additionally, the cosmetics with FP and FM substantially normalized the microbiota pattern and increased ATP content in hair follicle, while inhibiting lipid peroxidation in the scalp skin, and SH-group formation in the hair shaft. The study concluded that the experimental cosmetics with fermented papaya and mangosteen prevented hair loss and improved hair thickness in patients with diffuse hair loss caused by chemotherapy and psychological stress.
