TLDR Scalp clarifying shampoo can help reduce hair loss and improve hair volume.
In a randomized control trial involving 53 women with a mean age of 52.2 years, the use of a non-medicated, hypo-allergenic scalp-clarifying shampoo was evaluated for its effects on lichen planopilaris (LPP) and female pattern hair loss (FPHL). Over 6 months, the experimental group using the clarifying shampoo reported improved hair volume, greater comfort showing their hair, and a significant decrease in hair shedding compared to the control group. Specifically, subjects with LPP in the experimental group showed a significant reduction in the Lichen Planopilaris Activity Index (LPPAI) score. These findings suggest that scalp clarifying shampoos may benefit hair loss treatment by avoiding irritating ingredients and improving the penetration of topical medications. Further studies with larger sample sizes are recommended.
