TLDR Iron oxide nanoparticles improve skin penetration and drug release for hair loss treatment.
Iron oxide nanoparticles loaded with finasteride or dutasteride were developed for the topical treatment of alopecia. The nanocarriers showed higher skin penetration and drug release compared to control solutions, with DUT-ION being more effective than FIN-ION in increasing drug penetration. The nanocarriers also had a desirable visual characteristic that could help disguise hair follicle areas. The study suggests that the nanoformulations are highly promising for alopecia therapies.
