TLDR Women with androgenetic alopecia have lower zinc and iron levels.
The study examined zinc and iron levels in the serum and hair of 55 women, including 27 with female androgenetic alopecia (FAGA) and 28 healthy controls. It found that women with FAGA had significantly lower levels of zinc in both serum (65.6±14.2 μg/dl) and hair (103.4±25.5 ppm) compared to controls (serum: 128.4±41.4 μg/dl, hair: 143.5±33.1 ppm). Hair iron levels were also significantly lower in FAGA patients (17.9±3.8 ppm) than in controls (26.9±7.4 ppm), although serum iron levels were not significantly different. The study concluded that lower zinc and iron levels might play a role in the development of FAGA, but these levels did not correlate with alopecia severity, possibly due to the small sample size.
