TLDR Tailored treatments for alopecia areata are recommended based on severity and patient needs.
The Brazilian Society of Dermatology's consensus on treating alopecia areata (AA) emphasized a tailored approach based on disease severity and patient characteristics, recommending intralesional corticosteroids for localized AA and systemic corticosteroids or immunosuppressants for extensive cases. Newer therapies like JAK inhibitors showed promise but required further research. The consensus highlighted the importance of evaluating side effects, patient education, and support, and provided specific guidelines for different patient groups, including children and those with AA in various regions like the scalp, beard, eyebrows, and eyelashes. The document aimed to standardize care and improve outcomes, acknowledging the chronic and unpredictable nature of AA.
