TLDR Use lower concentrations of triamcinolone acetonide to reduce steroid-induced scalp atrophy.
The study analyzed trichoscopic images and medical records of patients with steroid-induced atrophy, revealing ivory-colored areas on the scalp associated with steroid deposits in the dermis. The analysis included 25 lesions from 8 patients, showing prominent blood vessels in 92% of lesions and visible hair bulbs in 20%. The study suggested that triamcinolone hexacetonide, a less soluble steroid, was often used and may contribute to these deposits. The authors recommended using triamcinolone acetonide at lower concentrations for intralesional injections to reduce the risk of atrophy.
