TLDR Bimatoprost is safe and improves eyelash growth in healthy kids but not in those with eyelash loss from chemotherapy or alopecia.
The study evaluated the safety and efficacy of bimatoprost 0.03% for promoting eyelash growth in 71 pediatric subjects with eyelash hypotrichosis, including those affected by chemotherapy or alopecia areata, and healthy adolescents. Participants applied the treatment nightly for 4 months and were observed for an additional month. Results showed a significant improvement in eyelash prominence in subjects treated with bimatoprost compared to the vehicle at month 4 (70.8% vs. 26.1%; P<0.001), with sustained benefits at month 5. However, significant benefits were only observed in healthy adolescents, not in those with hypotrichosis due to chemotherapy or alopecia areata. Bimatoprost was found to be safe and well-tolerated in the pediatric population.
