TLDR The study mapped yak skin cells to understand hair growth better.
This study utilized single-cell RNA sequencing to analyze 26,573 single cells from yak scapular skin during the hair follicle telogen and anagen stages, identifying 11 main cell types and constructing a transcription map of hair follicle cells. The research highlighted the heterogeneity of dermal papilla (DP) cells and dermal fibroblasts, revealing significant gene expression changes, particularly in the transition from telogen to anagen. Key genes such as STAT3, TCF4, RSPO1, and WNT3A were upregulated during anagen, indicating their crucial role in hair follicle activation. The findings provide insights into the molecular mechanisms regulating hair follicle morphogenesis and cycle development, emphasizing the importance of fibroblast signals in hair growth and potential applications in improving hair growth and wound repair.
