TLDR 400 nm particles penetrate hair follicles best, but mouse models aren't fully reliable for human studies.
The study investigated the impact of particle size of nanostructured lipid carriers (NLCs) on drug delivery to hair follicles in both mouse and human models. Curcumin-loaded NLCs with three different particle sizes were applied topically, and skin biopsies were analyzed using confocal laser scanning microscopy. Results indicated that 400 nm particles provided the best penetration and retention in both models. However, significant differences were observed between human and mouse hair follicle penetration, suggesting that while mouse models can be useful, they are not entirely reliable for human follicular delivery studies.
