Solid Lipid Nanoparticles Suspension Versus Commercial Solutions for Dermal Delivery of Minoxidil
September 2011
in “International Journal of Pharmaceutics”
TLDR SLN suspensions work as well as commercial solutions for minoxidil delivery, but are non-corrosive, making them a promising alternative.
This study compares the effectiveness of solid lipid nanoparticles (SLN) suspensions to commercial solutions for dermal delivery of minoxidil, a drug used to treat hair loss. The SLN suspensions were found to be as efficient as commercial solutions for skin penetration and were non-corrosive, while commercial solutions presented a corrosive potential. The study suggests that SLN suspensions could be a promising alternative for topical treatment of androgenic alopecia with minoxidil, as it could increase patient compliance due to its non-corrosive nature.
