TLDR Minoxidil foam enters hair follicles and skin for hair growth.
This study investigated the penetration pathways of topically applied minoxidil foam for hair growth. The study found that hair follicles are an efficient penetration pathway and reservoir for topically applied substances. The study concluded that minoxidil can penetrate through both the hair follicle and the interfollicular epidermis. The authors suggest that understanding the follicular penetration of drugs will lead to better drug delivery and a better understanding of skin barrier function.
