TLDR Plant-derived compounds may help reverse grey hair by boosting melanin production.
The review examines the potential of plant-derived monomers, such as coumarins, flavonoids, and terpenoids, to reverse grey hair by enhancing melanogenesis and tyrosinase activity. These compounds, including isopimpinellin, scopoletin, and 7,8-dimethoxycoumarin, have shown promise in increasing melanin production through various signaling pathways like MAPK and cAMP/PKA. The findings suggest these natural compounds could serve as safer alternatives to hair dyes for treating grey hair. However, further research is needed to fully understand their mechanisms and improve experimental reliability.
