TLDR A dissolving microneedle patch with dutasteride offers effective, long-lasting hair loss treatment with fewer side effects.
The study presents a novel dissolving microneedle (MN) patch loaded with dutasteride microspheres (DUT-MS) for the long-acting treatment of androgenetic alopecia (AGA). This system allows for localized delivery of DUT-MS, which continuously releases the drug within the skin, maintaining therapeutic concentrations and reducing systemic side effects. In a testosterone-induced AGA mouse model, the weekly administration of DUT-MS-MNs showed comparable efficacy to daily administration, suggesting improved patient compliance and minimized side effects. This minimally invasive approach offers a promising alternative for sustained AGA treatment.
