TLDR New gels using cellulose nanocrystals effectively deliver minoxidil to hair follicles, promoting hair regrowth.
This study developed a novel minoxidil (MXD) Pickering emulsion gel for targeted delivery to hair follicles, leveraging deep eutectic solvents (DES), cellulose nanocrystals (CNC), and sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC-Na). The DES significantly improved MXD solubility, facilitating the formation of stable Pickering emulsions with a droplet size of 679 nm. The MXD Pickering emulsion gel demonstrated enhanced rheological properties and stability, effectively promoting hair regrowth by upregulating hair growth factors. This innovative formulation offers a promising approach for treating androgenetic alopecia by targeting the dermal papilla within hair follicles.
