Comparative Study Between 2% Minoxidil Topical Spray vs. Intradermal Injection for Treatment of Androgenetic Alopecia in Female Patients: A Controlled, 4-Month Randomized Trial

In a 4-month randomized trial with 60 female patients suffering from androgenetic alopecia, the study compared the efficacy of 2% minoxidil topical spray against intradermal injection (mesotherapy). The results indicated that while both treatments led to hair growth improvements, mesotherapy was significantly more effective. This was determined through self-evaluation and trichogram parameters, including anagen, telogen, and vellus hair percentages. The study proposed that the enhanced effectiveness of mesotherapy could be due to the direct delivery of minoxidil to hair follicles and the stimulation of growth factors from the microtrauma caused by the mesogun. The conclusion was that minoxidil via mesotherapy is a more effective treatment for androgenetic alopecia in women than the topical application, warranting further investigation into its mechanisms.
