TLDR A new hair loss treatment combining minoxidil and cedrol improves hair growth and reduces side effects.
The study developed a new hair follicle delivery system, MXD-CED@CDF, loaded with minoxidil and cedrol for effectively treating Androgenetic Alopecia (AGA). This system reduced the adverse reaction of minoxidil, improved drug release and follicular delivery performance, enhanced human dermal papilla cells' (hDPCs) viability and uptake of drugs, and developed biocompatibility with skin. It also presented premature initiation and prolongation of the anagen phase in the hair cycle, hair follicle differentiation, and hair regeneration. The study used human dermal papilla cells, male C57BL/6 mice, and New Zealand white rabbits for the experiments. The synergistic effect of minoxidil and cedrol showed excellent results in promoting hDPCs viability and treating AGA in C57BL/6 mice.

Minoxidil alone is not enough for long-term hair growth without a DHT blocker like finasteride or dutasteride. Users suggest trying lower doses of finasteride or switching to dutasteride to manage side effects and improve results.

Switching from minoxidil with propylene glycol to a glycerin-based solution helped reduce scalp buildup and dandruff. Using ketoconazole shampoo and a scalp massager also improved scalp health.
