TLDR PRP therapy effectively improves hair density and reduces hair loss in androgenetic alopecia.
This study evaluated the effectiveness of autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy for androgenetic alopecia (AGA) in 41 Vietnamese patients over three months. It found significant improvements in hair density, increasing from 40.76 ± 14.26 hairs/cm² at baseline to 66.00 ± 18.00 hairs/cm² at week 12, and a reduction in hair loss, with positive hair pull tests decreasing from 75.6% to 12.2%. Higher platelet concentrations correlated with greater hair density improvements. Patient satisfaction was high at 97.6%, with minor adverse effects like itching and scalp discomfort. The study supports PRP as an effective treatment for AGA, despite limitations such as a small sample size, lack of a control group, and short follow-up duration.
