TLDR Poor sleep, meat-heavy diets, and junk food worsen hair loss, while sugary drinks may help.
This study investigated the association between lifestyle factors and the severity of male pattern hair loss (MPHL) in China. The study found that poor sleep habits, carnivorous eating, and consumption of junk food were associated with an increased risk of having a more severe type of androgenetic alopecia (AGA). In contrast, sugary drinks were found to be a possible protective factor. Heavy physical labor was also positively related to the severity of AGA. The study suggests that lifestyle characteristics, dietary choices, and sleep habits have a great association with the severity of AGA, and avoiding consumption of junk food and changing carnivorous eating habits, in combination with improving sleep quality, would prevent AGA from deteriorating to a more severe type.
