TLDR PRP is effective for treating hair loss, improving hair density, count, and thickness.
The umbrella review evaluated the efficacy of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in treating androgenetic alopecia (AGA) by analyzing 28 studies. The findings indicate that PRP is effective for AGA treatment, improving hair density, hair count, and hair diameter. The recommended protocol includes using a PRP volume of at least 0.05 ml/cm², preferably 0.1 ml/cm², with at least three treatments at 1-month intervals, and booster therapy 3-6 months after continuous treatment. Common side effects are mild and include pain, edema, and erythema. Despite some variability in study quality and PRP preparation methods, the review supports PRP's potential as an effective treatment for AGA.
