TLDR Red ginseng oil and its components help promote hair regrowth and could treat hair loss.
In the 2017 study, red ginseng oil (RGO) and its major components, linoleic acid (LA) and β-sitosterol (SITOS), were found to effectively promote hair regrowth in C57BL/6 mice with testosterone-induced delay of anagen entry, a key phase in the hair growth cycle. The treatments not only induced an earlier transition to the anagen phase but also up-regulated the Wnt/β-catenin and Shh/Gli signaling pathways, which are crucial for hair follicle development. Additionally, RGO and its components increased the expression of Bcl-2, an anti-apoptotic protein, and decreased the expression of TGF-β, a protein associated with hair loss. The study concluded that RGO, LA, and SITOS could be potent natural treatments for androgenic alopecia. The findings were supported by histological analysis, Western blot analysis, and statistical significance with a p-value < 0.05.
