TLDR A new method using Platelet-rich Plasma (PRP) in a microneedle can promote hair regrowth more efficiently and is painless, minimally invasive, and affordable.
The study introduces a new method for promoting hair regrowth using temperature-sensitive Platelet-rich Plasma (PRP) induced fibrin gel incorporated in a detachable transdermal microneedle (MN). The PRP gel, combined with gelatin methacryloyl (GelMA), allows for sustained release of growth factors (GFs) such as VEGF, PDGF, and TGF-β around the hair follicles for 4-6 days, promoting hair regrowth in mice models. The PRP-MNs were found to be convenient, minimally invasive, painless, inexpensive to manufacture, storable, and effective in boosting hair regeneration. In vivo experiments showed that PRP-MNs induced hair regrowth more efficiently than other methods, with 77% hair regrowth after 15 days compared to 52.3% in the PRP group. The study concluded that PRP-MNs provide a painless, minimally invasive, and sustainable effect of PRP for hair regrowth.
