TLDR Interest in new and personalized treatments for hair loss is growing.
The bibliometric analysis of androgenetic alopecia (AGA) research from 2003 to 2023 identifies 2,203 studies, with the USA leading in research output. Key treatments explored include anti-androgen therapies like finasteride, novel topical inhibitors such as Clascoterone and Pyrilutamide, and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy, which is effective with minimal side effects. Emerging treatments like Botulinum Toxin A (BTA) injections and microneedle therapy show promise. The study also highlights the potential of stem cell and gene therapies, particularly adipose-derived stem cells and genetic loci related to AGA, to revolutionize treatment. Despite advancements, no permanent cure exists, underscoring the need for ongoing research and innovation.
